Karl at the NSRA Hot Rod Drags 20 Sept 09
NSRA Hot Rod Drags: 18/09/2009 - 20/09/2009
"With a full supporting programme of Altereds, Anglias, Gassers, Dragsters and Flatheads, some say it was the best Hot Rod Drags ever and, you kknow what, they may just be right as well" - Custom Car Magazine
More than 200 show quality Street Rods and American muscle cars will be let loose in anger for the 21st annual running of the NSRA Hot Rod Drags. The event co-ordinated by the National Street Rod Association, features three action packed days of 'street legal drag racing' for pre '73 high dollar hot rods and big block custom cars.
The 1950s was the cornerstone of drag racing and its events like the Hot Rod Drags and the NSRA's Nostalgia Nationals in June which help recreate the golden days of the sport we love so much as well as the whole customising scene in general.

Where else will you expect to find period flathead roadsters, 200 mph nitro injected supercharged altereds, GM powered coupes, Chevy powered Fiats, classic blown Willys Coupe's, ground thumping dragsters, and all with unbridled horsepower and chrome.
Adding spice to the mix will be the Gasser Circus, featuring high riding 'doorslammer' full bodied cars of the 40's, 50's and 60's, along with the Custom Car magazine supported Flathead Meltdown, where sidevalve engines still reign supreme and last, but by no means least the Outlaw Anglia's; a class dedicated to Dagenham's finest sit up and beg Anglia's, Populars, Prefects and Fordsons.
Within the ranks of nostalgia drag racing expect to see the Wild Bunch; a class that runs front engined 'slingshot' dragsters and altereds, where Jaguar straight sixes rub shoulders with Buick 'nailheads' as well as all kinds of Fords, Chryslers and of course Chevrolet V8's. The Outlaw Flat Four VW's will be looking for some more wheels up action with there VW Gassers too.
As a special for the 21st anniversary of the Hot Rod Drags the track will be open on Friday for timed runs from midday until 6.00 pm. This will be for street rods, customs and hot rods only and on street tyres through the mufflers (exhaust). There's a Friday night Drive-In movie theatre showing sixties drag racing films, a dusk rolling Cacklefest on Saturday at eight (a popular hit last year) plus fireworks and bands.
There will be a full trade village selling everything from T-shirts, books, DVD, hot rod models and stickers plus the popular Rumble & Jumble where you will find that much sought after part to a complete your hot rod!
